When I enquired about Hannah Farrant, queen of needle felting at 'Felt Things', making my book characters out of felt, I had no idea the catalyst for creativity that it would be.
Hannah and I met late last year after my husband had shown me her felted creations on her Instagram page. I was really in awe of her talent to lure followers into the eyes of her 'makes' as she calls them. She is an old school friend of my husband, and when a mutual friend visited it seemed only appropriate that we should be introduced. Her beaming smile and joyful demeanour had me hooked and since then we spoke endlessly about creating my main characters Rory and Bobbee.
Nothing was too much trouble as I uhmmed and ahhed through the character development process. I watched, a little perplexed at times, at the magic of felting a ball of fluffy wool with a needle into a piece or art. There were moments when I needed time away to really decide what needed work, but with never a grumble, Hannah made the perfect felt Rory and Bobbee and I could not be happier with how they turned out.
With the help of another uber talented friend Dan Fishman, a photographer, Rory & Bobbee were treated to their own photoshoot to capture their best sides - all of them! The shoot was SO much fun, and took me back to my behind the camera days working on shooting my short film BOLT, and I felt alive, just as my characters now are in my heart.
Next steps will be incorporating the images into the book cover design, which I can't wait to share with you all.
